GUAMAP FUNDRAISING / EVENTS

To date, funds for GUAMAP come from individual donations, sales of Guatemala crafts and foundation grants. Since we have little overhead, your tax-deductible donation goes a long way!

$550 pays the round trip fare of a US-based acupuncturist to travel to Guatemala.

$150 pays for textbooks and supplies for 10 rural health workers for a week-long course.

$100  pays for two midwife kits suitable for long-term use in rural communities.

$50 pays for a full-course treatment of herbal anti-malarial medication for three adults.

Donations in the form of a check or money order can be made out and sent to:

In Tucson, GUAMAP raises funds through the sale of craft work from Guatemala, once-a-year solicitation letters, and special events.  In spring 1999, we co-sponsored a standing-room-only concert by the dynamic womens' musical group Ulali that also featured the terrific local comedian Drew LaCapa. We sponsor musical events and speakers on events and conditions in Guatemala. We participate in local educational efforts addressing conditions in Central America.

Are you a good organizer who enjoys the challenge of pulling together a successful community event and supports the work for change in Guatemala?  Our coordinating committee meets at 6p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, usually at La Indita restaurant (622 N. 4th Avenue, Tucson, Phone 792-0523). Come and share your ideas and your skills!   We want to meet you and we need your help!  Both Spanish and English speakers are welcome. In Tucson, call GUAMAP at 520.623.6620. Help needed in staffing crafts booths, writhing promotional materials, soliciting donations of supplies, and recruting volunteer acupuncturists.
